Young Carers
St. Michael's Middle School is committed to identifying and supporting pupils within the school who are classed as Young Carers. It is estimated that there are over 700,000 young carers living in the UK and that many of these are not known by their school.
What is a Young Carer?
A young carer is a child or young person under the age of 18 who helps look after someone in the family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled, living with a mental health condition or who misuses substances.
How do I find out if I am a Young Carer?
The school works very closely with a charity called 'MY TIME Young Carers' to provide support and positive experiences for pupils who are identified as carers. Their website has a section where you can see if you might be a young carer. Click HERE to go to this page.
Please do not feel embarrassed or worried about speaking to school staff if you think you are a Young Carer. The most important thing is to tell us so that we can support you in your role.
Support if you think you are a Young Carer
We have two members of staff who are St. Michael's Young Carer champions. If you think that you are a young carer and want some advice or want to find out about how MY TIME Young Carers might be able to support you, speak to Miss East or Miss Lane.
